Official: Sales in Moscow virus-hit industries rise 14% June 1–7

MOSCOW, Jun 9 (PRIME) -- The Moscow economy has demonstrated resilience against stress, and average daily sales in the industries that suffered most from the coronavirus rose by 14.3% on the week in the first week of June, Vladimir Yefimov, deputy mayor for economic policies, told reporters on Tuesday.

"The first online recovery steps have demonstrated that we have built a sufficient resilience margin – Moscow as an economic ecosystem and one of the world’s economic centers has been doing quite well during this period," Yefimov said.

“The diversified economy, timely support measures from the Moscow government and high openness helped us to return to growth fast.”

He said that the retail turnover grew by 6.9% in March–May with the May average daily sales growing by 7.8% on the year and 10.3% on the month.

The labor market is stabilizing with the number of people planned for firing starting to decrease from June 5, and the number of people working part-time, in dead time or on unpaid holidays falling by 3%, the official said.
